STEP uses a master protocol within NIH StrokeNet to examine multiple questions on improving outcomes in acute ischemic stroke. STEP’s adaptive platform enables multiple questions to be addressed simultaneously across domains, utilizing multifactorial experiments, sharing of controls within domains, and sharing a common infrastructure to improve outcomes and efficiency of learning. As new evidence emerges—internally or from external trials—domains and eligibility criteria can be modified, maintaining trial relevance and efficiency.
