Description of Opportunity:

Berry is looking for exceptional statisticians who want to use rigorous statistical thinking to solve challenging problems in medicine. We are interested in candidates at a range of career stages - from recent PhD graduates to experienced statisticians in academia, pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies, or other quantitative settings. A strong background in Bayesian statistics is important for most candidates. Berry statisticians are intellectually curious, strong computational thinkers, clear communicators, and energized by open-ended problems. Prior clinical trial experience is not required.

The Statistical Scientist’s Role Includes:

• A natural curiosity: a desire to develop a deep understanding of the disease, patient population, therapeutic intervention, and development goals so that the statistical work addresses the underlying scientific problem.
• Application of Bayesian, adaptive, and other innovative statistical methods to provide custom solutions to the specific problems encountered in each unique clinical trial.
• Coding of efficient and complex simulation programs/algorithms to understand and explain complex innovative trial designs.
• Translating complex analyses into clear conclusions and recommendations: What do the results tell us? What remains uncertain? What should happen next?
• Working directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, including statisticians, clinicians, scientists, business leaders, regulatory groups, and trial steering or monitoring committees.
• Taking ownership of challenging, often open-ended projects and identifying more efficient and effective ways to achieve the scientific and development goals.
• Contributing to the communication of innovative statistical designs and solutions through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications & Essential Skills:

• PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field; exceptional candidates with equivalent training and experience may also be considered.
• Strong background in Bayesian statistical methods. Exceptional candidates with broader statistical expertise and meaningful Bayesian experience may also be considered.
• Outstanding statistical programming, modeling, and computational skills.
• Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to make complex statistical ideas understandable to both statistical and non-statistical audiences.
• Intellectual curiosity, sound statistical judgment, persistence, and a genuine enjoyment of solving difficult problems.
• Interest in learning the clinical and scientific context of the problems we work on and in developing as a statistical consultant.

Location:

This position is flexible. Berry Consultants headquarters are in Austin, Texas, with team members throughout the US, UK and Europe.
